The story of the title

Johnny takes the title

Johnny picked up the Longest Drive challenge on Knebworth’s Hole 1 and promptly made the fairway look short, nosing a 310-yard shot down this downhill par 4. With out-of-bounds lurking right and bunkers ready to spring a sandy surprise, Johnny found the perfect launch pad by sensibly favouring the right half of the fairway. The Settler more than lived up to its name—after Johnny’s swing, there was nothing left to settle.

The hole behind the challenge

Hole 1: Hole 1

The Settler

This opening hole presents a downhill drive where favoring the right half of the fairway sets up the ideal angle for the approach. Be wary of Out of Bounds to the right and fairway bunkers—especially in dry conditions when they catch bold drives. The second shot climbs to a two‑tier green, well protected left‑front and right‑side. A par here is a solid start.

How to play it

Favouring the right half of the fairway with your drive is key to a manageable approach; avoid the right-side out-of-bounds and fairway bunkers, especially in dry conditions. The green is elevated and well-protected, so ensure you have enough club for the uphill second shot.
