It went to countback, and Shanker won—Stevenage’s closest three-way duel and possibly, its finest bragging rights.
Shanker (Grant) took top spot in the Stevenage Championship after a gripping tie at 34 stableford points, edging Con (James) and Dave on countback. Three shared the same points, but only one got to lord it over the group at the bar.
In the only round at Stevenage Golf & Conference Centre, Shanker (Grant), Con (James), and Dave all finished with 34 stableford points—talk about refusing to be separated. It came down to countback, where Shanker emerged as the outright champion, leaving Con and Dave to ponder the mysterious ways of tie-breaking algorithms and the true value of a nervy finish. Undeniably, Shanker now enjoys newly acquired legend status (in the clubhouse, at least).
